Short answer: There is no single universal MacBook repair price. The same symptom can come from an accessory, port, battery, display, power circuit or logic board, and construction differs by exact model. A useful quote therefore follows diagnosis and states the finding, scope, part type, limitations and price for approval. ITHOPE accepts out-of-warranty repairs in Brno; it is not an Apple-authorised service provider and does not handle warranty claims.
Why „my MacBook does not work" is not enough
A phone description can triage a case, but it cannot establish the final price. „It will not charge„ may point to an adapter, cable, contaminated port or an internal fault. „No picture" may involve the display, backlight or a computer that never booted. Pricing from the symptom alone either adds a large safety margin or changes after the device is opened.
Start with the exact model and year. Apple documents several ways to identify it: About This Mac, System Information, the serial number or markings on the device. Do not post a full serial number publicly; the name, year and model identifier are normally enough for the first enquiry.
What diagnosis separates
| Check | Decision it supports |
|---|---|
| model and configuration | correct procedure and compatible part |
| charger and accessories | whether the fault is inside the MacBook |
| visible damage or liquid | whether testing can continue safely |
| baseline function test | what worked before opening |
| previous repairs | whether missing or unsuitable parts change scope |
Apple Diagnostics can identify some hardware issues on a supported Mac and may return a reference code. A code is not a price and does not prove that one part will solve the problem. Physical inspection and a model-specific procedure are still required.
What the quote should contain
A sound quote separates the diagnostic finding, labour, part and completion conditions. Where options exist, it should say whether the part is new genuine, used, refurbished or compatible and explain the relevant limitation. You approve the price before paid work starts. A further fault discovered later requires fresh approval, not a silent surcharge.
We do not publish a fixed Apple repair price list because it would create false certainty without a model and finding. The same decision logic is explained in when laptop repair is worthwhile.
Preparing an efficient enquiry
Send the model, approximate year, exact behaviour, what happened before the fault and any previous repair. Add photos of exterior damage, but not screenshots containing full serial numbers or private information. Say whether you have the original power adapter and whether the issue also occurs with known-good accessories.
Make and verify a backup before handover. Apple recommends this because a service procedure may require storage replacement or erasure. Our 3-2-1 backup guide covers the practical baseline.
When not to approve yet
Pause if the quote lacks a finding, part type, total price or a rule for additional faults. Be equally cautious with a guaranteed result offered without the exact model or an inspection. Diagnosis is the step that turns a symptom into an informed decision.
For an out-of-warranty assessment, send the model and symptoms through our Apple device service in Brno. We first confirm whether the case is within scope and quote after the finding.
Diagnosis Has Four Layers, Not One Test
Intake starts by reproducing the fault: the technician records when it appears, which adapter or peripheral is involved and what changed immediately beforehand. The exact model and configuration come next. MacBooks sharing a marketing name can still differ in power delivery, ports, internal layout and part compatibility.
The second layer consists of safe tests without opening the computer: known-good power, port response, startup, image, input devices and, where appropriate, Apple Diagnostics. The third layer compares those results with physical condition and history. A reference code cannot be interpreted alone after an impact or previous repair. The fourth layer is controlled opening where it is necessary to confirm the finding and falls within the agreed diagnostic scope. Opening the device is not automatic permission to perform a paid replacement.
The result should not merely say „diagnostics completed". It should provide a readable chain: observed behaviour → checks performed → probable or confirmed cause → proposed solution → remaining uncertainty. If the fault could not be reproduced, that is a valid finding when accompanied by the conditions under which the device was tested.
Quote Variants After Diagnosis
| Diagnostic outcome | What should follow | What not to approve blindly |
|---|---|---|
| fault is outside the MacBook | identification of the unsuitable or failed accessory | internal part replacement without another finding |
| one replaceable part confirmed | model-compatible option, labour and post-installation test | an unnamed „genuine" part with no provenance or limits |
| repairable assembly or electronics | repair scope, verification method and outcome conditions | guaranteed success without assessing consequences |
| several faults or uncertain condition | separate options or advice not to repair | a bundle of work without comparison with replacement |
| fault not reproduced | test record and a plan for further observation | random part replacement „just in case" |
Options are not limited to a cheap and expensive part. They may distinguish minimum restoration, a fuller repair, postponement with a safe operating limitation, or closing the case without repair. Each option should state what it solves, what it does not solve and how the result will be checked. Refurbished, used, new genuine and compatible parts are not interchangeable terms; suitability must be verified for the exact model.
Red Flags and Business Approval
Warnings include a final price without the model, a same-day promise without a finding, an unspecified part, a request for an Apple Account or company-service password, and a statement that further work will simply be added later. A quote should also say whether a diagnostic fee remains payable if the repair is declined. These conditions belong before handover, not at collection.
For a business device, add an asset ID, assigned user, criticality and a named cost approver. The diagnostic record should not contain user files or passwords; it should identify the device, finding, option selected and test outcome. If the MacBook is operationally critical, prepare a loan device and access plan before the original leaves. Inventory and approval limits shorten waiting, but they do not replace a specific quote.
Do not turn the same symptom across several MacBooks into one bulk technical conclusion. Two models can show similar behaviour for different reasons. Every device needs its own intake and approval even where the company uses one shared workflow.
Frequently asked questions
Can a photo establish the price?
It can show exterior damage but not the internal fault or earlier work. It may support an estimate, not a final binding price.
Is Apple Diagnostics the same as workshop diagnosis?
No. It is one tool whose result must be interpreted with the model, symptoms and physical inspection.
Will work start without my approval?
Paid work should begin only after scope and price are approved. A changed scope should trigger a new approval.
Can diagnosis be chargeable if I decline the repair?
Yes, when the diagnostic fee and scope were agreed in advance. Before handover, confirm what the fee covers, when it becomes payable and what diagnostic output you receive.
What if the fault does not appear in the workshop?
The workshop should record the tests and conditions rather than replace a random part. A timestamp, video, accessory details and information about load, movement or temperature can help reproduce an intermittent issue.
